About Us

Iconographically, it is difficult to harness the representation of Lagos, as it opens its shores on a daily basis, to various creeds and amalgams of people. We found that the fabric of travel, as it interweaves through our daily lives can only come from one source- The Yellow of Lagos, as determined by the public transit system that is embedded in our commute routes. It’s practically impossible to visit Lagos and not notice the iconic Danfo, Keke, or Taxi. We strive to position the essence of Lagos through a yellow lens.
THE SPIRIT OF NATIONHOOD

Connect . Capture . Create

Endless Possibilities

The Yellow of Lagos is a one-of-a-kind lifestyle brand providing informative, reflective, and transformative experiential encounters with the three phases (3Ps) of the Lagos story – the Past, the Present and the Possible - through a mix of creative and cultural services. By its informative outlook, TYOL connects the world to the rich history (the past), exciting features and vast potential of Africa’s fastest growing megacity.

The Lagos Experience

By its reflective component, TYOL captures and showcases the unedited Lagos experience (the present). Through its transformative element, TYOL creates a unifying ideal (the possible) around the Lagos experience and offers the diverse city dwellers as well as visitors a reason to proudly associate with the city and the country of which the city is a vital part. In so doing, TYOL ignites patriotism and facilitates the discovery of nationhood.

The world will not respect Africa until Nigeria earns that respect. The black people of the world need Nigeria to be great as a source of pride and confidence.

NELSON MANDELA

Nigeria is a difficult place. It is not a country for the faint of heart. On a good day, when our larger cities such as Abuja, Lagos, and Kano are filled with the teeming masses going in so many different directions, flogged by the heat and sun, bumping down uneven roads all in the name of 'the hustle,' it can appear chaotic

UZODINMA IWEALA

Nigeria's unity is one for which enough blood has been spilled and many hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost. Many have paid for the unity of this country with their lives, and it will be wrong of us, as men and women of goodwill in this generation, to toy with those sacrifices that have been made

Our Vision

To become a world-class center for African cultural education by changing narratives on the continent, through experience. Our values include:

Foresight with the ability to look into the future and predict it

Creativity and the use of iconography for our installations

Adventure and creating meaningful experiences

Innovation with our community projects

Patriotism and compassion

Our Mission

There is vast disconnectedness from a national ethos: Nigerians in Nigeria, as well as Nigerians in the Diaspora who lack a sustainably inspiring national spirit. We fail to optimize the Lagos narrative in discovering and designing a Nigerian ethos despite the significance of the Lagos factor in the Nigerian socio-cultural and economic equation. We aim to:

Provide informative, reflective, and transformative experiential encounters

Harness the past, present and possible scenarios in our Lagos narratives

Connect the world to our rich Nigerian history

Showcase the unedited Lagos experience

Ignite patriotism and facilitate the discovery of nationhood

Our Services

Lagos is a one-stop shop for all you will ever need. We have tailored our value-added services to imitate the hawkers on the streets, who have everything you will ever need, outside of a house or a generator. Our services include but are not limited to:

Photojournalism and documentaries of Lagos

Through tourism, we curate unique travel experiences, festivals and experiential design

Philanthropy and fighting for social causes

Branding, culture consultancy, and city development consultancy

We key into creative themes in the following sectors: culinary, fashion, music, theatre, events, housing, transportation, urbanization, human development, nationhood, and the continent of Africa

National Identity

There is vast disconnectedness from a national ethos: Nigerians in Nigeria, as well as Nigerians in the Diaspora who lack a sustainably inspiring national spirit. We fail to optimize the Lagos narrative in discovering and designing a Nigerian ethos despite the significance of the Lagos factor in the Nigerian socio-cultural and economic equation. The inadequacy of the current Lagos narrative is due to its failure to discover and harness a unifying theme– one that cuts across ethnic, religious, age, gender, political or class divisions . The potentially electrifying Lagos narrative is bleaked by lingering negative narratives of Lagos itself. The stereotypes we want to change are:

Lagos is a megacity of slums with horrific traffic levels, infrastructure, pollution levels, finance, citizens’ wellbeing, public transport, poor percentages of green spaces, high debt levels and lazy youth

Living in Lagos is stressful

Nigerians resident in the cosmopolitan city of Lagos characterized by blended ethnic identities which, however, have failed to morph into a national identity

Nigeria is a third world country

Africa is a dark continent, with little to no development

Vistas of the New-Day Lagos

The possibilities of Lagos viz-a-viz its transportation systems will be inspired by the terrains of the future. Lagos is on a journey from its ancient origin to its future which will be characterized by amazing possibilities including groundbreaking innovations in art and architecture. The first migrants conquered the terrestrial Lagos while subsequent advancements began to make inroads into the waters – in this regard, we have explored the following:

We believe that the future of Lagos is subterranean with the housing and transportation system going under water into the continental shelf

In the past, the yellow shelled cowrie harvested from the surface of the Indo-Pacific waters became the symbol of the economy of Africa especially coastal states like Lagos; these cowries were not only the currency of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, they defined the economy of transportation in precolonial Lagos, hence the name “Five Cowry Creek” given to one of the creeks in Lagos named after the cost of the ferry that plied its waters

However, in the spirit of the Yellow of Lagos, we envision a Lagos that delves beneath the sea surface of the Atlantic to conquer the subterranean scape as the world’s most innovative megacity

The Yellow of Lagos is a quest for the symbol of that Lagos of the possible; we believe that that symbol is subterranean and is under the Atlantic waters

The Yellow of Lagos will bring back to the terrestrial Lagos that subterranean (yet undiscovered) symbol of the colour that binds us when the Lagos of the possible, otherwise called The New Day Lagos, emerges; hence the Yellow of Lagos is a quest for an ideal and its artistic symbolism; but the foretaste of this symbolism is all around us – in food, fashion, music, theatre, transportation, housing, etc.

Unity in Diversity

By rebranding Lagos, we are visionaries; we transcend the visible and obviously feasible to the seemingly impossible as we challenge the boundaries of innovation in urban development in the megacity. We believe that:

The Yellow of Lagos symbolizes the optimism required to challenge the status quo and breakthrough into the realm of innovative imagination in city development

In rallying Lagosians and, by extension, all Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious, class or other differences with the great vision of The New Day Lagos, we are igniting patriotism and taking the nation on a journey into the discovery of the spirit of nationhood

Transportation art has a huge role to play in challenging the status quo of the city, and the nation, by extension

Annual festivals that pop-up across the length and the breadth of the country, celebrating diversity and cultural differences in the country

We are following the yellow brick road into the formation of a New Nigeria
